Issues Surrounding Program Management Attract Local Business Leaders to Trissential Roundtable
Minneapolis - September 19, 2008
Local business and IT leaders from such organizations as Ameriprise Financial, Mayo Clinic, MoneyGram, SUPERVALU, Target, 3M, Wilson Leather, and more than 20 others attended a Trissential roundtable on the issues surrounding program management.
“Business improvement initiatives are bigger, more complex, and riskier than ever before,” said Michael Vinje, Trissential principal and co-founder, as he opened the roundtable. “That is why attention is being placed now on program management best practices.”
“Program management covers initiating, planning, executing, controlling, and closing initiatives,” he summarized. “It is distinct from project management in that it is broader, requires the participation of senior leadership, and is a strategic, rather than a tactical function.”
Vinje went on to present a brief overview of the definitions and implementation scenarios of program management proffered by the Gartner Group, the U.S. Department of Defense, and The Project Management Institute. Three-quarters of the evening’s roundtable consisted of business leaders sharing program management experiences and offering the lessons they learned along the way. The majority of the participants said the opportunity to share ideas with peers, the topic, and the format were excellent, and they looked forward to getting together again.
New roundtables for senior business leaders and IT executives on the issues of business improvement are being planned. Those interested in receiving notification about future events should call Debbie Henderson at 952-595-7970 or write info@trissential.com.
