Fairview Health Services is a community-focused health system providing a complete range of services, from prevention of illness and injury to care for the most complex medical conditions. Fairview’s continuum includes 40+ primary care clinics, a wide range of specialty services, home care and senior services. Fairview is also home to the University of Minnesota Medical Center, a quaternary care center which attracts patients from around the world who require subspecialty care.

Fairview embarked on an aggressive schedule to implement the electronic medical record system Epic at all of its hospitals in less than two years. With all of its clinics already using Epic, Fairview looked to quickly implement the same tools in its hospitals to allow for better, more integrated patient care. The implementation was challenged with a limited budget and shortened time intervals between hospital go-lives (five to seven months, versus the standard nine-month implementation schedule).

• Trissential worked closely with Fairview’s leadership team and other firms to rejuvenate and align multiple Epic implementation project teams, which included more than 200 members at certain points.
• The program team developed a comprehensive road map to coordinate efforts among the project components, including build, training, testing, hardware, reports and site activities.
• Trissential provided program management (including a program manager with eight years of Epic implementation experience) and project coordination to orchestrate the tremendous number of details associated with the implementation and hospital go-lives.

Trissential helped implement a mission-critical, $100 million+ electronic medical record system for Fairview’s hospitals. Trissential’s program management and project coordination provided a path that aligned the team, mapped timelines and instilled the right rhythm to the project. As a result, Fairview was able to successfully roll out Epic at five hospitals in an aggressive timeframe.
